Our
History
As early as the second half of the 19th century, the Schiavo brothers were at the helm of one of the first hotels in Ravello. At the beginning of the 20th century, Ferdinando, great-grandfather of the current owners, moved to Via San Francesco—where Hotel Rufolo stands today—expanding the business alongside the growth of his family. At the same time, he also managed the historic Rufolo café-restaurant, located in the iconic Piazza Duomo.
With the support of his son Alfredo, a man of great determination and vision, the hotel experienced significant growth.
The first expansion took place in the 1920s, followed by major renovations in the post-war years, culminating in a complete and functional renewal in the 1990s.
The passion for hospitality, handed down by Alfredo, Luigi, and Maria Rosaria, continues today with the same dedication through the collaboration of Alfredo and Micol, Luigi’s children, who carry on the family tradition.
Over the years, the hotel has hosted many distinguished guests, including D. H. Lawrence, who stayed here for extended periods in 1926 and 1927, finding inspiration for his celebrated novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

History
Già nella seconda metà del XIX secolo, i fratelli Schiavo erano alla guida di uno dei primi hotel di Ravello. All'inizio del XX secolo, Ferdinando, bisnonno degli attuali proprietari, si trasferì in via San Francesco, dove oggi sorge l’Hotel Rufolo, espandendo l’attività in parallelo con la crescita della sua famiglia. Contemporaneamente, gestiva anche l’antico caffè-ristorante Rufolo, situato nell’iconica Piazza Duomo.
Con il sostegno del figlio Alfredo, uomo di grande determinazione e visione, l'hotel conobbe un’importante crescita.
Il primo ampliamento avvenne negli anni '20, seguito da significative ristrutturazioni nel dopoguerra, fino a un completo e funzionale rinnovamento degli anni '90.
La passione per l’ospitalità, tramandato da Alfredo, Luigi e Maria Rosaria, continua oggi con la stessa dedizione con la collaborazione di Alfredo e Micol, figli di Luigi, che portano avanti la tradizione famigliare.
Nel corso degli anni, l’hotel ha ospitato numerose persone illustri, tra cui D.H. Lawrence, che vi soggiornò a lungo nel 1926 e nel 1927, trovando ispirazione per il suo celebre romanzo L’amante di Lady Chatterley.
